Prathana Balgram

Prathana Balgram is a residential child care project of Prathana Foundation that provides a safe, nurturing, and family-like environment for children from vulnerable backgrounds, including children from farmer-suicide-affected families, orphaned children, and children in need of care and protection. Established in 2018 with just eight children, the project has grown into a permanent residential campus at Morvanchi, Solapur. Today, Prathana Balgram is home to 45 children, providing them with shelter, education, healthcare, nutritious food, life skills, and opportunities for holistic development. Beyond meeting basic needs, the project focuses on building confidence, character, and self-reliance through education, cultural activities, sports, and participation in natural farming practices. At Prathana Balgram, we believe that every child deserves not only care and protection but also the opportunity to dream, learn, and build a brighter future.

Vanchitanchi Shala

Vanchitanchi Shala was the first initiative of Prathana Foundation, launched in 2018 with the vision of reaching children living on the margins of society. The project worked with children who were engaged in begging, living on the streets, or disconnected from formal education. Through regular outreach, counseling, and educational support, the initiative helped children move away from begging, substance abuse, and other harmful influences while reconnecting them with learning opportunities. Led by Prasad Mohite and Anu Mohite, Vanchitanchi Shala served as a bridge between vulnerable children and mainstream education, creating pathways toward a safer and more dignified future. The experiences and learnings from this initiative laid the foundation for the establishment of Prathana Balgram, the Foundation's residential child care project. Although the project is currently not operational due to resource and funding limitations, its impact continues to inspire our work and remains an important chapter in the journey of Prathana Foundation. A Beginning That Sparked a Movement of Hope.

Natural Farming Project

The Natural Farming Project is a unique initiative of Prathana Foundation that combines sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and experiential learning for children. Implemented within the campus of Prathana Balgram, the project promotes chemical-free and ecofriendly farming practices. Currently, more than 16 varieties of vegetables are cultivated naturally, providing fresh and nutritious produce for the children and elderly residents living at the institution. Beyond food production, the project serves as a practical learning platform where children actively participate in sowing, watering, harvesting, and farm management activities. Through hands-on experience, they learn the values of hard work, responsibility, sustainability, and self-reliance. The initiative not only contributes to the nutritional needs of the institution but also helps children develop a deeper connection with nature and agriculture. Growing Food, Growing Futures, Growing Responsibility.

The programs focus on personality development, leadership, communication skills, social responsibility, mental well-being, and nation-building. In collaboration with educational institutions, we conduct workshops and interactive sessions that encourage youth to explore their potential, develop life skills, and engage in meaningful social action. By creating opportunities for learning, reflection, and community engagement, the project helps young people build confidence, strengthen their character, and become positive agents of change.
